The 2006 World Congress on the Science and Medicine of the Marathon evolved in an effort to reproduce and update the historic meeting of the New York Academy of Sciences organised by Paul Milvy in conjunction with the 1976 New York Marathon. The 2006 World Congress was made possible by the sponsorship of the American Road Race Medical Society and the American College of Sports Medicine, and most significantly, the financial support of the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon and the LaSalle Bank Chicago whose generous contributions allowed the Congress to convene.
