Virchows Archiv has closed another successful year of pathology publishing. About 170 papers were published, mostly original articles but also insightful review papers. The Editors of the journal thank all those who submitted their original material to Virchows Archiv. It is only through publishing results of original research that the journal can justify its existence, even though review and guideline papers invariably dominate in the list of those most cited. To maintain high quality, peer review remains a less than ideal but nonetheless effective tool. The Editors are grateful to those that participated in this process by reviewing one or more manuscripts. We thank the following colleagues who dedicated time and energy to allow the journal to maintain its standards. …
