In the current issue of Annals of Surgical Oncology, Aquina et al. evaluated textbook oncologic outcomes (TOOs) across several cancer sites using data from the US National Cancer Database (NCDB) for over 800,000 patients.1 Using adjusted hospital TOO rates, the study established a direct association with overall survival by cancer site, thereby concluding that TOO is a valid metric that can be used to compare the overall quality of cancer care and drive improvement at the hospital level. …
