Sir: Malbrain et al. [1] have contributed a review that describes the advantages and disadvantages of various techniques for measuring intra-abdominal pressure (IAP). The authors comment that neurogenic dysfunction, pelvic hematoma, and fractures are contraindications to bladder techniques since they may overestimate IAP. We believe that abdominal packing does not overestimate IAP; it is a true cause of abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS), associated principally with massive volume resuscitation, as we have previously reported [2]. …
