Currently, dementia is one of the commonest neurological diseases and the seventh leading cause of death among all diseases. It was reported that dementia affected approximately 55.2 million people globally, and caused substantial disability as well as tremendous societal care cost (Zhang 2023). Selenium (Se), an essential micronutrient to human health, has gained extensive attention to its beneficial effects on cognitive function mainly due to its excellent antioxidant and anti-inflammation properties (Bai and Zhang 2023). Se displays brain function-associated activities mainly through selenoproteins. Therefore, the expression of selenoproteins is crucial to the neuroprotective effects of Se. …
