The incidence of patients with anophthalmia varies from country to country, but it has approximately the same incidence as the cleft and lip palate deformity. Statistics of different series of anophthalmic patients, all examined personally, are presented. This includes the age at enucleation, the cause for the loss of the eye, enucleation sometimes resulting in anophthalmic enophthalmia, the sunken upper lid deformity, lid closure insufficiency and a taut lower eyelid, holding the artificial eye.
