Sportsman’s groin: reaching a consensus

During the October 2012 meeting of The British Hernia Society (BHS) held in Manchester (UK) the nature and management of the controversial condition Sportsman’s groin (groin disruption injury, Sports hernia, “Gilmore’s Groin”) was discussed and a consensus statement entitled “Treatment of the Sportsman’s Groin” was published and made available as a free download in October 2013 [1]. That document reflects the view of a panel comprising surgeons together with one ‘recognised chartered physiotherapist’ and one musculoskeletal radiologist with ‘an interest in this difficult subject’. Although the statement is an attempt at bringing order to a confused and controversial subject, it raises a number of questions at this stage of our still limited understanding. …
