Atraumatic splenic rupture (ASR) is uncommon but can be life-threatening with a mortality rate of 12.2%.
1 Although many reports refer spontaneous splenic rupture, most of the time, this occurrence is a manifestation of an underlying condition, namely infectious diseases and hematologic and non-hematologic neoplasms.
2 However, etiology is identified only after surgery in 27.8% of the cases.
1 Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare, aggressive neoplasm arising from precursors of type 2 dendritic cells with a median survival of 12 months. The majority of patients have cutaneous involvement with rapidly spreading bruise-like lesions. Lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly, and cytopenia are also frequent.
