Sirs: The 3243A>G point mutation in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is associated with the MELAS (mitochondrial encephalopathy with lactic acidosis and stroke-like episodes) syndrome, and sometimes with additional phenotypes like a sensorimotor polyneuropathy [
