Short Report of Retained Radiopaque Marker in Gauze and Comparison of Ease of Dislodging and Breaking

Retention of foreign bodies within the body is infrequent; however, gauze is the most prevalent surgical foreign body encountered and is frequently identified on radiographic examination [1]. To my knowledge, there have been no reported cases where only a part of the radiopaque marker of gauze was left in a patient’s abdominal cavity. In this study, I encountered a case in which a segment of the gauze radiopaque marker was severed and retained within the body. The relative force required for the removal or severance of the gauze radiopaque markers on the gauze was compared. …
