Available data do not suggest Rickettsia rickettsii has been found in Indonesia

In a recent edition of EcoHealth, a review article entitled, “Distribution and Ecological Drivers of Spotted Fever Group Rickettsia in Asia,” by Jaruwan Satjanadumrong, Matthew T. Robinson, Tom Hughes and Stuart D. Blacksell was published (Satjanadumrong et al. 2019). The purpose of the review was “to discuss the distribution of SFGR (spotted fever group rickettsiae) in Asia, the arthropod vectors and the impact of land-use change on the spread of SFGR disease emergence.” In the Asian SFGR distribution described based upon previous reports, Rickettsia rickettsii was shown to be present in multiple countries in Asia. This novel idea goes against current dogma that R. rickettsii endemicity is limited to the Western Hemisphere. …
