A 72-year-old male was evaluated in the gastroenterology outpatient clinic for complaints of dysphagia and worsening heartburn for the previous 2 weeks. The dysphagia, which was accompanied by retrosternal chest pain when swallowing, was progressive for both solids and liquids and did not improve when treated with orally administered omeprazole 20 mg bid. He had no nausea, vomiting, or regurgitation, but his weight had decreased by 10 lbs in the past month. …
