South Africa has only a handful of paediatric radiologists, but paediatric imaging is carried out at numerous hospitals and clinics throughout the country. General radiologists in South Africa, even when experienced and confident in imaging children in general practice, have poor knowledge of current trends in paediatric imaging practice [1]. Awareness of radiation protection issues among paediatricians is generally low, with widespread underestimation of relative doses and risks [2]. …
