In our recent case report [
1] we presented the first documented case of acute human infection with Tula virus (TULV). In a letter to the editor, Clement et al. [
2] have regarded the serological data as compatible with a recent infection by TULV but rejected its pathogenicity for the patient. Furthermore, they argue that all of the clinical symptoms could be attributed to an infection by
Streptobacillus moniliformis, one of the causative agents of rat-bite fever (RBF). Following are our reasons why we remain convinced about the pathogenicity of TULV for humans and why we discard RBF as a diagnosis. …
