Excerpt

The treatment of colorectal liver metastasis has evolved over the last 20 years. What was previously thought to be a contraindication to surgery metastatic disease in the liver has been demonstrated to be amenable to locoregional therapy. Up to 70% of recurrences after resection of primary colorectal cancer occur in the liver and up to 40% of these patients present with liver-only disease. These patients are amenable to potential cure following metastasectomy as demonstrated by 10 year actual survival of nearly 20% in selected patients.1
