Erim and his colleagues have presented data to suggest that the incidence of H. pylori seropositivity may be significantly higher in morbidly obese patients than in a control group [1]. While compelling and an important contribution, this study should not lead to the uniform adoption of H. pylori serology testing for all potential bariatric surgery patients. As is the case for routine cholecystectomy at the time of bariatric surgery, there are many arguments both for and against this approach, and a variety of practices employed in actual clinical settings. …
