1] note that physical restraint in mechanically ventilated patients resulted in a higher incidence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They do not specify the percentage of patients who were physically restrained or the type of restraints used. Physical restraint may either be minimal, like mittens, or may involve the more restrictive practice of tying the patient's limbs to the bed. It is plausible that the former is less traumatic. …
