The result of 1 year prospective study from 96 hospitals in Thailand concluded that thirty nine thousand three hundred and fifteen records in patient with hyperbaric bupivacaine for spinal injection reviewed. There were five hundred and forty three cases of adverse events which were six cases of cardiac arrest (which means 0.15 per 1000 patients of incidence), eleven cases of apnoea (which means 0.28 per 1000 patients of incidence), 431 cases of SBP <80 mmHg &Heart rate <50 beats/minute (which means 0.15 per 1000 patients of incidence), one hundred and seventy four cases of brain abnormal: epilepsy and revolving eyes (which means 10.96 per 1000 patients of incidence), three cases of death from circulatory failure and convulsion aggravated (which means 4.43 per 1000 patients of incidence), seven cases of unconsciousness (unknown cause) (which means 0.08 per 1000 patients of incidence) and eight cases of therapeutic failure (which means 0.18 per 1000 patients of incidence). From this study, we couldn’t conclude that it was the direct conclusion between the adverse events and the anaesthesia. Guideline practice for anaesthetic procedure and intensive ongoing monitoring of serious events are recommended. …
