Everyone has heard the adage, “a picture is worth a thousand words”, and yet, all too frequently, the information in graphical displays submitted to the Journal could be summarized in fewer than a dozen words. In this editorial, we discuss the use of bar graphs for displaying data arising from measurements and classifications. We identify the deficiencies of these graphs and propose more informative alternatives. …
