Patients who underwent pneumonectomy are confronted with a higher incidence of chest infection, bronchopleural fistula, respiratory failure, and arrhythmia, as well as perioperative death than lobectomy. A previous study showed that age >65 years, underweight body mass index, American Society of Anesthesiologists score ≥3, right laterality, extended pneumonectomy, and absence of systematic lymphadenectomy were risk factors of complications after pneumonectomy. Induction therapy and overweight body mass index category were protective factors.
