Pathological Axillary Lymph Node Status in HER-2 Receptor Positive and Negative Breast Cancers

Studies on the association of HER-2/neu with the axillary lymph node metastasis are controversial.1,2 To the best of our knowledge, no study has ever reported the association of HER-2/neu overexpression with extracapsular extension in the axillary lymph nodes. We conducted a study to test the hypothesis that the association of HER-2 overexpression in invasive ductal carcinoma of breast might show a difference in the status of axillary lymph node involvement. Our study attempts to make comparative analysis of pathological axillary nodal involvement based on the Sixth edition of American Joint Committee on Cancer, AJCC, staging system for breast cancer,3,4 between HER-2 positive and negative invasive ductal breast cancer. …
