Joint pathology is a common source of morbidity in patients of all ages and is particularly prevalent in the elderly population as nearly 50% [
1] of patients over 65 report a diagnosis of arthritis. Osteoarthritis and other rheumatic conditions represent the leading cause of work disability in US adults [
2]. As people continue to live longer and strive to remain active in their later years, it has become more important to treat painful joints to allow patients to maintain an active lifestyle.
