What a book—this is the most comprehensive one-volume textbook of ophthalmology I have ever held in my hands. Many kilos of updated knowledge in its second edition, authorized by two senior editors, 11 section editors and 302 contributors—a unique cooperation of many highly reputed experts in the field. The book is superbly structured and comprises 12 parts clearly separated by colour coding; each part covers a varying number of chapters. Most chapters are introduced by a colour-coded insert with definitions and key features of its contents and concluded by a selection of references for further reading. The illustrations, which include tables, figures and clinical pictures, are unique and homogenous throughout all the 243 chapters. One cannot but be impressed by this book’s format, since it is well maintained despite the broad multiplicity of subjects and authors. …
