The classic Rives–Stoppa repair is described and illustrated in our manuscript and in Dr. Corcione’s letter. It involves the placement of mesh in a retromuscular position. There have been numerous modifications of the Rives–Stoppa repair. Our technique was described simply as a modification of the classic repair. This modification of the Rives–Stoppa repair involves the placement of the mesh intraperitoneally and then primarily closing the overlying fascia. A “modification” is the act of making something different. We felt that our repair was not so different from the classic Rives–Stoppa repair to be called the “Sirinek” repair. However, Dr. Corcione and others are free to call this modification the “Sirinek” repair. …
