Mucositis guidelines: what have they achieved, and where to from here?

Mucositis remains one of the most troublesome side effects of anti-cancer treatment with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or a combination of both. It is also one of the ‘Cinderella’ areas in oncology: curing mucositis is not as exciting a prospect as curing cancer, but it would improve the quality of life of thousands of cancer sufferers annually. Again, like Cinderella, it is often ignored by the oncology community. What we cannot help we would rather not think about. …
