Haemorrhoidectomy is frequently associated with significant postoperative pain and prolonged hospital stay; different techniques and devices have been developed to overcome these problems, including modifications of the technique (excision without legation) and introduction of new surgical instruments (Ligasure™, Harmonic Scalpel™).
