In the post c-KIT era, true smooth muscle neoplasms of the GI tract have received little attention and are extremely rare tumors with a reported prevalence of 1%. It is important to differentiate leiomyosarcomas (LMS) from gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), as GISTs are responsive to tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Here, we report a case of primary gastric LMS in an adult with a review of the literature of similarly published cases with special emphasis on pathology and treatment. …
