Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is established as a less invasive axillary staging method than axillary lymph node dissection for clinically node-negative breast cancer patients. Nevertheless, SLNB is not free from comorbidities, including lymphedema and neuropathy, to some extent.
1 Thus, attempts have been made to develop a model to predict sentinel lymph node metastasis (SLNM), such as the MSKCC nomogram and gene profiling analysis, for the purpose of selecting patients who are at a very low risk of SLNM and thus in whom SLNB can be omitted.
