We Need More Data: Choosing the Optimal Treatment Strategy for Patients with Resectable Metachronous Resectable Colorectal Liver Metastases

We read with great interest the recent manuscript by Nassar et al. [1] describing the results of a multi-institutional national survey on the management of patients with metachronous resectable colorectal liver metastases. We commend the authors for addressing a very common oncologic conundrum regarding the timing and choice of therapy for this patient population. We agree that expert opinion does play an important role in developing consensus for treatment strategies, particularly in situations where there are limited evidenced-based data to support practice. We do wish, however, to highlight several concerns regarding the survey and methodology that limited the generalizability and applicability of the survey results. …
