Use of a levonorgestrel-containing oral contraceptive approximately halved the risk of pulmonary embolism compared with products containing a third-generation progestogen, according to the results of an observational cohort study published in the BMJ. In addition, the risk of pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction or stroke was decreased in products using 20µg rather than 30−40µg of ethinylestradiol. …
