During an era where the demand for liver transplantation far exceeds the number of deceased donors, the use of extended-criteria allografts with an increased risk of transmission of disease is justified if it can be demonstrated that their use is associated with satisfactory short- and long-term outcomes. The article by Burr et al. [1] supports the contention of many transplant surgeons that liver allografts from donors with hepatitis C virus (HCV+) can be successfully used for transplantation [2, 3]. …
