Most currently available antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) inhibit excessive neuronal firing by blocking voltage-dependent sodium channels or by facilitating GABAergic transmission. Because potassium channels also play a role in neuronal excitability, enhancing neuronal potassium currents provides an attractive novel mechanism for AED action. …
