Local recurrence (LR) is frequent in soft tissue sarcomas (STSs) and its consequences can be severe. In retroperitoneal sarcoma, the majority of tumor-related deaths are caused by LR, while in extremity tumors, LR frequently leads to salvage amputations. Local control poses a challenge to sarcoma surgeons due to the often advanced growth of these tumors and the goal of preserving limb function in extremity tumors. …
