Several international guidelines, such as the 9th edition of the American College of Chest Physicians guidelines on antithrombotic therapy and venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention, recommend prolonged VTE prophylaxis (up to 4 weeks after surgery) for patients with cancer undergoing abdominal surgery.1
