We congratulate the authors for a large multi-institutional study on gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST).1 The number of patients included in this study (397) is impressive. The standard treatment for gastric GIST is surgical resection, but the type of surgery performed depends on the location of the tumor. Wedge resection is a good option for tumors located in the anterior wall or greater curve. Wedge resection for tumors at antrum or gastroesophageal junction can produce a stenosis, so formal gastric resections are favored. Wider margins have not shown any oncologic advantage, and lymph node dissection is not indicated.2 These features make GIST tumors good lesions for resection using minimally invasive techniques. …
