In a recent study published in this journal entitled Hepatic and Extrahepatic Colorectal Metastases: When Resectable, Their Localization Does Not Matter, But Their Total Number Has a Prognostic Effect,1 Elias et al. concluded the following: “For the first time, this study shows that for metastatic colorectal tumors, when they are resectable, the total number of metastases, whatever their locations, is a more important prognostic factor than the site of the metastasis. Therefore it seems that one LM (liver metastasis) associated with one EHD (extrahepatic metastasis, such as peritoneum, lung, hepatic lymph node, etc.) has almost the same prognostic value as two isolated LMs.” The words in italics are our own and are inserted for clarity. …
