Muscle MRI is increasingly used as a diagnostic tool to describe the degree and the pattern of muscle involvement and to guide in the localisation of future muscle biopsy when needed [1‐3]. Fatty degeneration (i.e. the most frequently observed abnormality in muscle diseases) can be detected by T1-weighted imaging showing hyperintensity. Most of the rating scales used to score the degree of muscular dystrophy are based on the amount of fatty degeneration. T2-weighted imaging (short tau inversion recovery [STIR] as most frequently used sequence) can be used to detect muscle oedema, observed in case of inflammatory, toxic, or metabolic changes. …
