Unicentric Castleman’s Disease Masquerading as Retroperitoneal Sarcoma—Two Paraneoplastic Presentations of a Rare Disease

Castleman’s disease (CD) is a rare benign lymphoproliferative disorder commonly seen affecting nodal basins. It can present as either a unicentric or multicentric disorder and is often mistaken for a malignant mass or disseminated malignancy. Although seen usually involving the mediastinum, it can also be seen in the neck, axilla, or pelvis. Retroperitoneal CD is among the rarer presentations of the disease where it can be very difficult to correctly characterize the disease pre-operatively. Very rarely, there have been anecdotal case reports of retroperitoneal CD presenting with paraneoplastic symptoms as well. We hereby present two cases of retroperitoneal CD with entirely different presentations, closely mimicking retroperitoneal sarcoma. …
