Tom Shadyac, famous for his role as an American writer, director, and producer of films such as The Nutty Professor, Bruce Almighty, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Patch Adams, and Liar Liar, set out on a journey to explore the following questions: What is wrong with the world? and What can we do about it? The outcome—I am, a 2010 documentary—follows Shadyac after his 2007 bicycle accident, resulting in post-concussion syndrome, which motivates him not only to re-think his priorities in life but also to take a “sharp turn into unchartered territory” [1]. It is Shadyac’s sharp turn that I discuss in this essay. …
