Tricks in End-to-End Anastomosis in Microsurgery: a Systematic Review

Abstract

One of the main techniques for vascular anastomosis with end-to-side anastomosis is end-to-end vessel anastomosis. It is however sometimes difficult to achieve because vessels have different sizes and properties, which can be a cause of failure. To avoid these anastomotic failures, several authors have described over the years different end-to-end anastomosis techniques with more or less encouraging results. A total of 528 articles were analyzed by two independent reviewers. Each evaluator then blindly selected the articles most relevant to our topic, and then we compared our results so as to use the articles that best answered our topic. A total of 15 articles were selected to write this literature review. We then classified the techniques between end-to-end anastomosis by direct suture and mechanical end-to-end anastomosis (glue, laser, coupler). The microsurgeon therefore has many methods of end-to-end vessel anastomosis. Knowing about these different methods can be interesting so that he can choose the method best suited to the situation he may be facing.
