Abstract

We describe a rare case of congenital eventration of left hemidiaphragm in a 30-year-old male with associated congenital anomalies like dysmorphic facial features and camptodactyly of the toes and finger. Migration of the abdominal organs like the spleen, kidney, and stomach in the thorax was present. He underwent a successful open transthoracic diaphragm plication. The presence of congenital anomalies, migration of several abdominal viscera, high level of diaphragm, and absence of significant illness or injury favored a congenital origin of the eventration. An open approach for surgery was considered for better tactile feedback due to the thin diaphragm and posteriorly located eventration, thereby avoiding injury to the abdominal organs.
