The subspecialty of arthroplasty experiences the mixed blessing that is new technology: new imaging approaches, new bearing surfaces, new navigation systems, new implant designs, and the list goes on. While these technologies may benefit patients, they almost always come with a substantial rise in cost compared existing approaches, and often hit the market with little or no documented clinical benefits.
