Bariatric surgery has developed very rapidly in recent years due to the concomitant worldwide obesity epidemic [
1] and the evidence that nonsurgical means are not effective in achieving sustained weight loss [
2]. The Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP) is still considered by most as the procedure of choice because of its multiple mechanisms of action, which result in weight loss as well as remission of obesity-related metabolic comorbidities [
