New purported associations between schistosomiasis and human pathologies keep emerging to highlight the burden of this tropical disease, nonetheless causal inference remains controversial. Among these, schistosome-associated acute appendicitis (SAA) has been reported in 0.003–2.1% of appendiceal surgical specimens [1]. In a recent article on the CT characteristics in the diagnosis of Schistosoma japonicum (S. japonicum)-associated appendicitis, Valluru and colleagues pointed significant differences between SAA and ordinary acute appendicitis [2].
