Investigating the Relationship between Emotional and Social Intelligence with Mathematical Performance

The general goal of teaching mathematics is to help learners develop reasoning and associated mental capacities. There are several factors that could affect this process (Gottfredson 2002). Among those, social and emotional emotional intelligence have gained popularity in recent decades. Gardner referred to social intelligence, also known as interpersonal intelligence, as the ability to get along with others and have them to cooperate with you (Gardner 2006). On the other hand, Goleman’s (1998a, b) defined emotional intelligence as the ability to regulate one’s mood, and control impulses. According to Mayer and Salovey (2000) emotional intelligence is a valuable tool, which determines how we use skills such as intelligence quotient to perform at our best. …
