Healing potential and surgical treatment of anterior cruciate ligament rupture in pediatric population

In the last years, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury rate has significantly increased in pediatric and adolescent patients; particularly in the age 10–14, a 19% increase of ACL tear was observed from 2007 to 2011. The national US High School Sports-Related Injury Surveillance Study found an ACL injury rate in adolescent athlete of 6.5/100,000, with football, soccer, and basketball as high-risk sports, still lower than the adult ACL injury rate reported that varies from 25/100,000 to 45/100,000. …
