This engrossing book is a welcome addition to the small but growing body of texts devoted exclusively to psychological considerations in genetic counselling practice. The author, Christine Evans, is a psychiatrist and psychotherapist who worked in the Institute of Medical Genetics in Cardiff, Wales for 10 years in the 1990s. During her time there she provided counselling supervision for clinical staff (genetic counsellors and medical geneticists) and contributed to the development of genetic counselling process research. Her work gave her exposure to the actual content of genetic counselling consultations through video and transcripts, as well as psychotherapeutic sessions with genetic counselling clients herself. This book is the product of that unique arrangement. …
