At nearly 600 pages, Dr. Tolin thoroughly covers all the principles of what the contemporary, well-trained CBT psychotherapist needs to learn and master. The book has 22 chapters divided into three parts: (1) Why do people suffer? (2) How do we help? and (3) Putting it all together. Dr. Tolin provides a very-well structured, comprehensive yet refreshingly elegant and succinct integration of CBT theory, research and practice. His approach involves integrating behavior-level interventions (e.g., stimulus control, contingency management and graduated exposure), cognitive-level interventions (e.g., identification of maladaptive thoughts, core beliefs and cognitive restructuring) and emotion-level interventions (e.g., distress tolerance and emotional regulation) with ample wit and considerable clinical wisdom. …
