The Therapist’s Role in Effective Therapy: Three Key Priorities for Research

This special issue has raised a number of important issues about the role of the therapist in successful therapy outcomes. The studies included in this issue confirm the variability between therapists and their outcomes. In short, not all therapists are the same and some therapists achieve superior outcomes than others. These findings tie in with the idea that the time has come to invest in the study of evidence based therapists (as opposed to evidence based models; see Blow and Karam 2016). I will comment on three key questions raised in this issue that relate to the topic of evidence-based therapists that highlight future research priorities. …
