Rectal diverticulum is an uncommon, mostly asymptomatic event with the estimated prevalence of 0.07–0.08 % in healthy persons [1, 2]. In contrast, iatrogenic rectal diverticula following procedure for prolapsed hemorrhoids (PPH) have been documented more frequently in recent years. They occur at the staple line and can lead to anal pain, constipation, incomplete evacuation and fever. This condition was first described by Pescatori 2006 and named “rectal pocket syndrome” [3]. It is believed to result from a failed staple line; however, the true etiology is not clear. The incidence of rectal pocket syndrome after PPH is 2.5–15 % [3, 4]. Here, we present an unusual case of rectal pocket syndrome 10 years after a sigmoid resection. …
